Level: A1
Accent: American
Audio Script (Transcription)
Hello and welcome to the Listening Room! My name is Emily, and today, we are going to talk about asking and giving directions. When you are in a new place, you might need help finding something. Let’s learn how to ask and give directions in English!
If you need help, you can say:
“Excuse me, where is the bank?”
“How can I get to the train station?”
People can give directions using simple words:
“Go straight.” (Walk forward.)
“Turn left.” (Go to the left.)
“Turn right.” (Go to the right.)
“It’s on your left.” (The place is on the left side.)
“It’s on your right.” (The place is on the right side.)
“It’s next to the supermarket.” (The place is beside the supermarket.)
“It’s across from the park.” (The place is in front of the park.)
Let’s listen to an example:
A: “Excuse me, where is the post office?”
B: “Go straight, then turn right. The post office is next to the bank.”
Now, let’s practice! Ask for directions to a place in your city. Try to give simple directions, too!
