How to Express Certainty and Uncertainty

Dalam percakapan sehari-hari, kita sering menyatakan keyakinan atau keraguan terhadap suatu hal. Dalam bahasa Inggris, terdapat berbagai ungkapan yang bisa digunakan untuk mengekspresikan kepastian (certainty) atau ketidakpastian (uncertainty).

Penjelasan Materi

1. Mengungkapkan Kepastian (Expressing Certainty)
   • Digunakan ketika kita yakin bahwa sesuatu benar atau pasti terjadi.
   • Contoh ungkapan:
     • I’m sure that… (Saya yakin bahwa…)
     • There is no doubt that… (Tidak diragukan lagi bahwa…)
     • I’m certain that… (Saya sangat yakin bahwa…)
     • It is definitely… (Ini pasti…)
     • Without a doubt… (Tanpa ragu…)
2. Mengungkapkan Ketidakpastian (Expressing Uncertainty)
   • Digunakan ketika kita ragu atau tidak sepenuhnya yakin terhadap sesuatu.
   • Contoh ungkapan:
     • I’m not sure if… (Saya tidak yakin apakah…)
     • Maybe… (Mungkin…)
     • It’s possible that… (Ada kemungkinan bahwa…)
     • I have doubts about… (Saya ragu tentang…)
     • I’m not certain… (Saya tidak yakin…)

• I’m sure that she will come to the meeting.
• There is no doubt that he is the best player in the team.
• Maybe they forgot about the appointment.
• I’m not certain if we will have enough time to finish the project.
• It’s possible that she missed the train.

Dialog Singkat

A: Do you think it will rain tomorrow?
B: I’m not sure, but the weather forecast says there is a possibility.
A: I hope it doesn’t rain. We have a picnic planned.
B: I’m certain that it will be fine. Let’s stay positive!
