Hello and welcome to the Listening Room! My name is Emily, and today, we are going to talk about making a simple phone call in English. Talking on the phone can feel difficult, but with a few simple phrases, you can do it easily!
When you answer the phone, you can say:
“Hello, this is Emily speaking.”
“Hello, how can I help you?”
If you are calling someone, you can say:
“Hi, is this Sarah?”
“Hello, may I speak to Mr. Johnson?”
If you need to ask someone to wait, you can say:
“Just a moment, please.”
“Can you hold on for a second?”
If the person you are calling is not available, you can say:
“Can I leave a message?”
“Please tell him I called.”
To end the call, you can say:
“Thanks for your time. Bye!”
“I’ll talk to you soon. Goodbye!”
