Title: How to Talk About Past Events (Using Simple Past)
Level: A1
Accent: American
Audio Script (Transcription)
Hello and welcome to the Listening Room! My name is Emily, and today, we are going to talk about past events. When we talk about things that happened before now, we use the simple past tense. Let’s learn how to do it!
To talk about something you did yesterday or last week, you can say:
“Yesterday, I visited my friend.”
“Last weekend, I went to the park.”
Regular verbs in the past end in -ed:
“I watched a film last night.”
“She played football after school.”
Some verbs are irregular. They change completely:
“I ate pizza for dinner.” (eat → ate)
“He went to London last summer.” (go → went)
You can also ask questions:
“What did you do yesterday?”
“Did you visit your grandparents?”
Here’s an example:
“Last Saturday, I went shopping with my sister. We bought some clothes and had lunch in a café. In the evening, we watched a film at home. It was a great day!”
Now, it’s your turn! Try to talk about what you did last weekend.
