Icarus (mythical interpretation)

Daedalus, a brilliant inventor, was imprisoned on the island of Crete with his son, Icarus, by King Minos. To escape, Daedalus crafted wings from feathers and wax.

Before taking flight, he warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun, as the heat would melt the wax, nor too close to the sea, as the moisture would weigh down the wings. Overcome with excitement, Icarus ignored his father’s warning and soared too high.

The sun’s heat melted his wings, and he plunged into the sea, drowning. This myth has been interpreted in many ways—some see it as a lesson about moderation and obedience, while others view it as a symbol of human ambition and the cost of overreaching.

The story of Icarus reminds us that while ambition and curiosity drive progress, recklessness can lead to downfall. It teaches a balance between aspiration and caution.
